This is very different from the mainstream Ningxia wines, not jammy but rather leafier and juicier. Tight and fruit-expressive on the palate with dusty tannins and a long, fluid finish. Drink now."

"The 2020 The Summit is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has a deep ruby appearance. On the nose, the wine has leafy, ripe Cabernet Sauvignon fruit showing cassis, bramble and herbaceous notes of green bell pepper, sage and cut grass. These are nicely complemented by some new oak notes of clove, toast, smoke and a touch of vanilla (the 2020 vintage seeing 50% small-format, new French oak, with the remaining 50% in one-year-old small oak barrels for some 18 months). On the palate, this is full-bodied with lively acidity, fine-grained and relatively well-rounded ripe tannins and fairly well-integrated 14.5% alcohol. This structure is filled out with moderately concentrated and varietally strong Cabernet Sauvignon fruit complemented by the careful use of oak. Emma Gao has done a really good job with this wine in the more demanding 2020 vintage. With its moderate to longer length, the 2020 is already approachable but will repay cellaring over the next 3 years or so."
