"Tasted assembled from tank, Bizeul's 2009 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Le Clos des Fees had only recently been sulfured in preparation for bottling. This is imposingly rich and alluringly aromatic. Confectionary cherry and black fruits; caramel; dark chocolate; and vanilla dominate the proceedings, but for all of sheer, seamless ripeness projected by this cuvee, the lingering sweetness of its finish is unmarred by alcoholically heat, even if - understandably given its current state - it is texturally less polished than other wines in Bizeul's 2009 and 2008 collections. I don't envision this ever approaching the complexity of its 2008 counterpart, but it ought to be worth savoring over at least the better part of the next decade. Incidentally, Bizeul notes that the vines of Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah from the parcels that have since 2005 routinely informed his Clos des Fees cuvee are essentially constant, while the amount of Mourvedre that makes the cut for inclusion - in this instance, somewhat more than usual - varies from year to year."
