Planted to Dijon clones 95 and 76, The North Slope captures Walter Hansel’s affinity for Burgundy through the generous character of Russian River Valley Chardonnay. Its vineyard slopes gently from south to north, enjoying ample sunlight that helps develop flavour and richness.
The 2022 opens with an expressive bouquet of pineapple, apricot and citrus blossom, accented by orange peel, toasted spice and a subtle flinty note. Full-bodied and supple, it unfolds with ripe fruit, buttery nuances and a gentle touch of French oak, while hints of mint add aromatic lift. A lingering saline edge brings a mouthwatering quality to the long, lightly toasted finish.
We suggest pairing it with butter-poached lobster, pan-seared scallops, or roast chicken with a light cream sauce. Its rounded texture complements the richness of shellfish and creamy preparations, while its citrus notes and saline finish keep each mouthful inviting.
Enjoy it now for its generous fruit and supple texture, or follow its development with careful cellaring. Antonio Galloni suggests drinking through 2028, while Audrey Frick extends her window to 2031—a rewarding prospect for lovers of rich, expressive Chardonnay with a refreshing finish.
