Named after the lane Walter Hansel built through the family property, Cahill Lane holds a special place in the estate’s story. Planted entirely to the Wente clone, this vineyard block is usually among the last harvested, allowing extended ripening to develop the richness that distinguishes its Chardonnay.
The 2023 opens with inviting aromas of poached yellow apple, citrus peel and toasted baking spice. Supple and creamy on the palate, it reveals orchard fruit layered with lemon and tangerine, while almond and marzipan nuances add depth. Savoury undertones lend complexity to a Chardonnay that combines generous texture with an understated elegance.
We suggest pairing it with pan-seared scallops in brown butter, lobster with a light cream sauce, or roast chicken with mushrooms. Its rounded texture complements richer dishes, while the citrus character brings lift. For a local pairing, try Cantonese-style steamed chicken with ginger and spring onion, keeping the seasoning delicate.
Enjoy it now for its expressive fruit and supple texture, or cellar well through approximately 2028–2029, in line with Audrey Frick’s suggested drinking window. An inviting choice for Chardonnay lovers who appreciate richness, savoury detail and a graceful citrus finish.
