La Court Riserva embodies Michele Chiarlo’s dedication to elevating Barbera into the company of Piedmont’s great wines. Made from 100% Barbera grown on the La Court estate in Castelnuovo Calcea, it combines carefully controlled yields with favourable hillside exposures and calcareous marl soils. Produced only in excellent vintages in limited quantities, this is a wine of depth, elegance and distinctive vineyard character.
The 2020 vintage benefited from replenishing spring rains, followed by bright late-summer days and marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures. These conditions encouraged ripeness while preserving freshness. Maturation for approximately 12 months in oak followed by 18 months in bottle brings harmony and polish to its generous fruit.
Aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry mingle with floral nuances of violet and iris, alongside cocoa and coffee. The palate is rich and juicy, revealing ripe dark plum and berry flavours within a structured yet velvety frame, finishing with freshness and silky persistence. Pair with porcini tagliolini, roast veal, agnolotti with a rich meat sauce or mature cheeses for a rewarding expression of Piedmontese hospitality.
