The 2018 Ermitage “Le Pavillon” Rouge is a monumental expression of Syrah from the legendary Les Bessards granite slopes of Hermitage. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum intertwined with notes of violet, crushed stone, licorice and subtle smoky spice. On the palate it is powerful yet impeccably structured, with dense concentration, finely grained tannins and remarkable mineral depth leading to a long, persistent finish. Built for long ageing yet already impressive in its precision and balance, this great Hermitage pairs superbly with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, venison, game birds or slow-braised beef dishes.
