The 2016 Ermitage “Le Méal” Rouge is a magnificent and deeply concentrated expression of Syrah from one of Hermitage’s most celebrated vineyard parcels. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and plum layered with notes of violet, licorice, graphite and subtle smoky spice. On the palate it is powerful yet beautifully refined, with velvety tannins, remarkable depth and a long, mineral-driven finish that reflects the warm, alluvial soils of the Méal hillside. Structured and complex, this exceptional Hermitage pairs superbly with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye steak, venison, duck confit or slow-braised beef dishes, and will continue to evolve gracefully with further cellaring.
