This is an exceptionally rare still red wine produced entirely from old-vine Pinot Noir. The fruit comes from a south-facing Grand Cru parcel directly below Les Crayères in Ambonnay, where slightly deeper clay over chalk provides greater richness and structure. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, it is matured for 22 months in French oak, around 30% new, before being bottled directly from barrel without fining or filtration.
The 2023 reveals raspberry, red cherry and darker berry fruit layered with rose petals, white pepper, exotic spice, bitter cocoa and subtle earthy nuances. Concentrated yet elegant, the palate combines silky, finely structured tannins with vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve lightly cool at around 14–16°C and, while young, decant for approximately an hour. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, pigeon, veal, pork, game birds, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
Produced in extremely limited quantities, Cuvée des Grands Côtes is considered one of Champagne’s finest still red wines—a powerful yet refined Pinot Noir with Burgundy-like complexity, considerable collector appeal and the potential to develop for 15 years or more.
