A classic village Nuits-Saint-Georges from one of the appellation’s benchmark domaines. Made from Pinot Noir grown across several village parcels, this 2023 captures the more generous and expressive side of the vintage while retaining the structure, savoury depth and mineral grip that define Henri Gouges. The nose is bright and inviting, with notes of red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and fresh plum, layered with rose petal, subtle spice, earthy undertones and a fine chalky mineral note. The palate is medium-bodied, energetic and precise, showing vivid red and dark berry fruit, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. There is good mid-palate intensity, with a savoury, mineral finish that gives the wine its classic Nuits-Saint-Georges identity. More approachable than some earlier, more austere Gouges vintages, yet still built with enough structure for cellaring, this 2023 should drink well from around 2028 and continue to develop beautifully over the following decade or more. Excellent with roast duck, grilled lamb chops, beef bourguignon, roast chicken, char siu, wagyu yakiniku, mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, braised pork belly, game birds, Comté or aged Gruyère. Its savoury structure also works well with Cantonese roast goose, soy-braised meats and earthy mushroom-based dishes.
