A rare and characterful white Burgundy from Domaine Henri Gouges, made from Pinot Gouges — a white mutation of Pinot Noir discovered by Henri Gouges in his own vineyards. This is not a conventional Chardonnay-based Bourgogne Blanc, but a distinctive, textural white that reflects both the domaine’s history and the limestone freshness of the Côte de Nuits. The 2023 opens with delicate aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, grapefruit, crisp apple and pear, with subtle hints of fennel, almond and stony minerality. The palate is fresh and finely balanced, combining orchard fruit brightness with a gentle silky texture and a clean mineral line. There is good lift from the acidity, while the finish is elegant, persistent and quietly savoury. It is excellent with seafood, scallops, crab, steamed fish, roast chicken, Comté, sushi, sashimi and Cantonese seafood dishes.
