96 points. - Decanter
This is a prestigious vintage Champagne composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from approximately 40-year-old vines in Ambonnay. The cooler, classically structured 2014 vintage produced wines of excellent freshness and definition. Fermented entirely in oak, it spent an exceptional 96 months on its lees before disgorgement in July 2023 and was finished with only 1 gram per litre dosage.
Aromas of pear, mirabelle plum and citrus unfold alongside freshly baked bread, almond paste, honeycomb and delicate spice. Full-bodied, satiny and deeply concentrated, the palate combines vinous richness with exceptional purity, vibrant acidity and a long, penetrating, saline finish. It pairs superbly with lobster, crab, roast turbot, scallops, truffled poultry, roast chicken, foie gras and mature Comté.
The 2014 is regarded as one of the finest Champagnes of this often-underestimated vintage. Produced only in outstanding years and released after eight years of cellar maturation, it offers magnificent drinking now but possesses the structure and freshness to evolve beautifully for another 15 to 20 years.
