This non-vintage Champagne Brut Rosé is the fourth release in Penfolds' collaboration with Champagne House Thiénot. In 2019, Penfolds announced its Champagne partnership with Thiénot by releasing three Champagnes: a Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée, and Grand Cru single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs from the 2012 vintage. The first Champagne Brut Rosé celebrates the shared style and quality ambitions of Thiénot's chef de cave Nicholas Uriel and Penfolds' Chief Winemaker Peter Gago.
It displays a youthful, bright/vivid pale-salmon colour. The nose reveals an assortment of grenadine fruits – including raspberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant, and strawberry. Excluding pomegranate. With citrus notes - pink grapefruit and mandarin marmalade. And floral/confectionery scents – similar to Anis de Flavigny Violet Pastilles or Violets of Toulouse; lily. Upon sitting – aromas of cherry jam.
The palate isInviting and exotic. Balanced with freshness, crisp upfront, and a delicate finish. Relaxed acidity and friendly effervescence. Subtle mandarin and raspberry notes over a base of strawberry with pepper / Turkish Delight with pistachio. Light and sprightly, revealing its ‘Champagne character’ over time. A second glass is tempting.
