"Pretty berries, roses, stones and herbs. Really refined and fresh on the palate with a medium body and well-mannered tannins. Lovely texture, purity and finesse. No clusters this year due to the rainier season. Drink now."

"The Silver Heights 2022 Jia Yuan Wild Ferment Pinot Noir has a pale to medium-ruby appearance. On the nose, there is lifted, perfumed and savory raspberry, red cherry and red plum fruit with a violet note combining with hints of clove and toast (this vintage spent 12 months maturing in a mixture of one-year-old, small-format French oak and vessels similar to Georgian qvevri). There’s also a slight herbal and orange peel element, suggesting a degree of whole bunch. On the palate, this is medium-bodied with moderate coating tannins, some sprightly acidity and well-integrated 13% alcohol. There is a decent core of varietally correct fruit with that savory herbal element. With its moderate to longer length, this is already drinking well now but will also benefit from shorter-term aging in bottle over the next 2-3 years. This is the best vintage of Gao’s wild yeast-fermented Pinot Noir to date."
