Champagne Henri Giraud Aÿ Grand Cru ‘Argonne’ 2017 delivers a refined yet deeply layered expression of Pinot Noir, opening with aromas of ripe orchard fruit, baked apple, toasted hazelnut and subtle spice, underpinned by a fine mineral line. The palate is creamy and textural, with beautifully integrated Argonne oak lending structure and a gentle smoky nuance, balanced by fresh acidity and a long, saline finish. More poised and elegant than powerful, the 2017 shows finesse, precision and quiet intensity. Ideal with butter-poached lobster, roasted poultry with truffle, seared scallops, or aged Comté, where its richness and savoury depth elevate both the wine and the dish.
“The 2017 Argonne is a terrific wine in a very challenging year. Apricot, hazelnut, dried flowers, ginger, tangerine oil and light tropical accents are all finely knit together. Medium in body and quite approachable, the 2017 is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. I would not push my luck on aging, as this is a decidedly svelte, mid-weight Argonne.”
