"An extraordinary aroma of blackberries arose from the wine as I was decanting it. At this age, it still has amazing fruit. The wine is tremendously concentrated and powerful, the bouquet showing smoked oyster, smoky charcuterie and roasting pan scrapings, all the marvellous complexities of an old, strongly-oaked Penfolds red. If anything, the bouquet is better than the nose: it has a slightly disjointed palate, with a slight mid-palate dip. Still, a superb mature example of the style."
