The nose opens with ripe black cherry, blackberry, cassis and dark plum, lifted by notes of violet, peony, spice, crushed chalk, iron, earth, cedar and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with deep dark berry fruit, vibrant acidity and fine but firm tannins. There is excellent balance between richness and freshness, with a long, savoury, mineral finish that reflects the limestone depth and serious pedigree of this Premier Cru site. More structured and cellar-worthy than the village Nuits-Saint-Georges, this 2023 Clos des Porrets combines immediate aromatic appeal with the backbone to age beautifully. Best enjoyed after a few years in bottle, it should reward cellaring well into the 2040s. Excellent with roast duck, beef bourguignon, grilled lamb rack, venison, wagyu beef, braised short ribs, roast pigeon, coq au vin, mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, aged Comté and Gruyère.
