The parcel occupies an ancient riverbed covered with oval white stones coated in calcium carbonate. These stones provide exceptional drainage while absorbing daytime heat and moderating the vineyard’s cold nights.\u003cbr\u003eThe cooler 2019 vintage particularly suited this north-facing parcel, producing a remarkable combination of power, freshness and elegance. Made from 100% Malbec with 50% whole clusters, it was fermented using wild yeasts and matured for 20 months in one- and two-year-old French oak. Catena Zapata\u003cbr\u003eIntensely perfumed with blackberry, black cherry, violets and lavender, complemented by black olive, wet stone, pepper and subtle oak spice. Full and concentrated on the palate, yet exceptionally precise and graceful. Abundant but finely integrated tannins create a chalky, mineral texture, while vibrant acidity carries the dark fruit through a long, focused and savoury finish. Among Catena’s Adrianna Malbecs, River is arguably the most mineral and refined—more linear than Fortuna Terrae and less muscular than Mundus Bacillus Terrae. Excellent with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, beef tenderloin, charcoal-grilled short ribs or duck breast.
