This wine is produced from 75-year-old vines located in Les Crayères, a single terroir in Ambonnay. Its soil is sparse, only 30cm deep, and sits atop a bed of chalk hundreds of metres below the ground. Positioned mid-slope with south-facing exposure, these deeply-rooted vines offer concentrated Pinot fruit with a mineral energy. Yields are naturally low, providing the optimal ripeness and intense flavor. Egly-Ouriet Domaine celebrates this singular terroir, delivering the wine unblended and with minimal dosage of two grams per litre. An enjoyable drink now, it will even improve with cellar-aging of 2-5 years. A remarkable expression of a remarkable terroir, it is a strong contender for the region's finest.
